Chapter 8: Medical Services<br />
The Medical Services will provide pr<strong>of</strong>essional health care and public health related<br />
services to <strong>Delegation</strong> Members, all credentialed participants, spectators and staff<br />
attending ATHENS 2011 Games and manage all medical incidents through the<br />
medical services system. The Services will be provided in the best interest <strong>of</strong> the<br />
individual and will be based on an effective and feasible three-tier system <strong>of</strong> care.<br />
8.1 Objectives <strong>of</strong> Medical Services<br />
The main objectives <strong>of</strong> Medical Services are to provide:<br />
� On-site medical care to all associated with ATHENS 2011 Games<br />
� Referral to the National Health System Medical Centers and hospitals<br />
medical/surgical incidents for further consultation and treatment<br />
� Tracking and monitoring all medical encounters throughout the medical<br />
services system<br />
� Public Health related services during Host Town Program and the Games<br />
� Assistance in disaster/emergency situations<br />
8.2 Medical Services System<br />
Medical Services have developed a three-tier system <strong>of</strong> care that consists <strong>of</strong> 1st Level<br />
on-site medical care, 2nd Level care at Venue Medical Centers and 3rd Level health<br />
care at designated Medical Centers and hospitals.<br />
The First Aid and Medical Center <strong>of</strong> the National Airport will provide health services<br />
during the arrival and departure <strong>of</strong> <strong>Delegation</strong>s.<br />
A Medical Center will also operate on a 24-hours basis at the <strong>Delegation</strong> Welcome<br />
Center.<br />
During the Host Town Program, health services will be provided by the Local Health<br />
Authorities (Medical Centers and Hospitals). The Medical Operation Center (MedOC)<br />
<strong>of</strong> the GOC ATHENS 2011 will be informed <strong>of</strong> all medical incidents and help<br />
coordinate any major medical incidents.<br />
At the Competition and Non-Competition venues the Medical Centers will operate<br />
60΄ minutes before the arrival <strong>of</strong> the delegations and 60΄ minutes after their<br />
