i. "In all points tempted as we are"<br />

That Christ was "in all points tempted as we<br />

are" (Heb. 4:15), shows that He was a partaker <strong>of</strong><br />

human nature. Temptation and the possibility <strong>of</strong><br />

sinning were real to Christ. If He could not sin He<br />

would have been neither human nor our example.<br />

Christ took human nature with all its liabilities,<br />

including the possibility <strong>of</strong> yielding to temptation.<br />

How could He have been tempted "in all<br />

points" as we are?<br />

Obviously "in all points" or "in every way"<br />

(NIV) does not mean that He met the identical<br />

temptations we meet to<strong>day</strong>. He was never tempted<br />

to watch demoralizing TV programs, or to break<br />

the speed limit in an automobile.<br />

The basic issue underlying all temptations is<br />

the question <strong>of</strong> whether to surrender the will to<br />

God. In His encounter with temptation Jesus<br />

always maintained His allegiance to God. Through<br />

continual dependence on divine power He<br />
