The Testimony of Scripture
The certainty of the Second Advent is rooted in
the trustworthiness of the Scripture. Just before His
death Jesus told His disciples that He would be
returning to His Father to prepare a place for them.
But He promised, "'I will come again'" (John 14:3).
As Christ's first coming to this earth had been
prophesied, so His second coming is also foretold
through all of Scripture. Even before the Flood
God told Enoch that it was Christ's coming in glory
that would end sin. He prophesied, "'Behold, the
Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to
execute judgment on all, to convict all who are
ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds
which they have committed in an ungodly way, and
of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have
spoken against Him'" (Jude 14, 15).
