Paul finally acknowledged that he needed<br />

divine power to be victorious. Through Christ he<br />

put aside a life according to the flesh and began a<br />

new life according to the Spirit (Rom. 7:25; 8:1).<br />

This new life in the Spirit is the transforming<br />

gift <strong>of</strong> God. Through divine grace, we who are<br />

"dead in trespasses and sins" become victorious<br />

(Eph. 2:1, 3, 8-10). The spiritual rebirth so<br />

transforms the life (John 1:13; John 3:5) that we<br />

can speak <strong>of</strong> a new creation--the "old things have<br />

passed away" and "all things have become new" (2<br />

Cor. 5:17). The new life, however, does not<br />

exclude the possibility <strong>of</strong> sinning (1 John 2:1).<br />

4. Evolution and man's fall<br />

Ever since Creation Satan has confused many<br />

by weakening confidence in the scriptural accounts<br />

<strong>of</strong> the origins <strong>of</strong> the human race and man's Fall.<br />

One could call evolution the "natural" view <strong>of</strong><br />

humanity, a view based on the assumption that life<br />

began by chance and that humans, through a long<br />

evolutionary process, have emerged from the lower<br />
