37. Some have interpreted the "2300 eveningsmornings"<br />

as only 1150 literal <strong>day</strong>s (e.g.,<br />

TEV). But this is contrary to Hebrew usage.<br />

Carl F. Keil, editor <strong>of</strong> the Keil and Delitzsch<br />

commentary, wrote: "When the Hebrews wish<br />

to express separately <strong>day</strong> and night, the<br />

component parts <strong>of</strong> a <strong>day</strong> <strong>of</strong> a week, then the<br />

number <strong>of</strong> both is expressed. They say, e.g., 40<br />

<strong>day</strong>s and 40 nights (Gen. 7:4, 12; Ex. 24:18; 1<br />

Kings 19:8), and three <strong>day</strong>s and three nights<br />

(Jonah 2:1; Matt. 12:40), but not 80 or six <strong>day</strong>sand-nights,<br />

when they wish to speak <strong>of</strong> 40 or<br />

three full <strong>day</strong>s. A Hebrew reader could not<br />

possibly understand the period <strong>of</strong> time 2300<br />

evening-mornings <strong>of</strong> 2300 half <strong>day</strong>s or 1150<br />

whole <strong>day</strong>s, because evening and morning at<br />

the creation constituted not the half but the<br />
