Jesus referred to Himself as "prophet" (Luke<br />

13:33). He proclaimed with prophetic authority<br />

(Matt. 7:29) the principles <strong>of</strong> God's kingdom<br />

(Matthew 5-7; 22:36-40), and revealed the future<br />

(Matt. 24:1-51; Luke 19:41-44).<br />

Before His incarnation Christ filled the Bible<br />

writers with His Spirit and gave them prophecies<br />

about His sufferings and subsequent glories (1<br />

Peter 1:11). After His ascension He continued to<br />

reveal Himself to His people. Scripture says He<br />

gives His "testimony"--"the spirit <strong>of</strong> prophecy"--to<br />

His faithful remnant (Rev. 12:17; 19:10; see<br />

chapter 17 <strong>of</strong> this book).<br />

Christ the Priest<br />

A divine oath firmly established the Messiah's<br />

priesthood: "The Lord has sworn and will not<br />

relent, 'You are a priest forever according to the<br />

order <strong>of</strong> Melchizedek'" (Ps. 110:4). Christ was not<br />

a descendent <strong>of</strong> Aaron. Like Melchizedek, His<br />

right to the priesthood came by divine appointment<br />
