whom I am preserving in a special way?<br />

The Lord orders the soiled attire to be removed<br />

speedily and declares: "'See, I have removed your<br />

iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich<br />

robes'" (Zech. 3:4).<br />

Our loving, all-merciful God sweeps Satan's<br />

charges aside, justifying the trembling sinner,<br />

covering him with robes <strong>of</strong> Christ's righteousness.<br />

As Joshua's dirty robes represented sin, so the new<br />

robe represented the believer's new experience in<br />

Christ. In the process <strong>of</strong> justification, confessed<br />

and forgiven sin is transferred to the pure and holy<br />

Son <strong>of</strong> God, the sin-bearing Lamb. "The<br />

undeserving repentant believer, however, is dressed<br />

with the imputed righteousness <strong>of</strong> Christ. This<br />

exchange <strong>of</strong> clothes, this divine, saving transaction,<br />

is the Biblical doctrine <strong>of</strong> justification."[5] The<br />

justified believer has experienced forgiveness and<br />

been purified <strong>of</strong> his sins.<br />
