secured once and for all. Our future salvation, the<br />

glorification <strong>of</strong> our bodies, Paul related, however,<br />

to the second coming <strong>of</strong> Christ.<br />

"For this reason Paul can say simultaneously:<br />

'We are saved,' in view <strong>of</strong> the cross and<br />

resurrection <strong>of</strong> Christ in the past; and 'we are not<br />

yet saved,' in view <strong>of</strong> the future return <strong>of</strong> Christ to<br />

redeem our bodies."[12]<br />

To emphasize our present salvation to the<br />

exclusion <strong>of</strong> our future salvation creates an<br />

incorrect, unfortunate understanding <strong>of</strong> Christ's<br />

complete salvation.<br />

Glorification and Perfection<br />

Some incorrectly believe that the ultimate<br />

perfection that glorification will bring is already<br />

available to humans. But <strong>of</strong> himself, Paul, that<br />

dedicated man <strong>of</strong> God, wrote near the end <strong>of</strong> his<br />

life, "Not that I have already attained, or am<br />

already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay<br />

hold <strong>of</strong> that for which Christ Jesus has also laid<br />
