Managing <strong>Switch</strong> User Accounts<br />

Quick Steps for Network Administrator User Accounts<br />

1 Configure the user with the relevant username and password. For example, to create a user called<br />

thomas with a password of techpubs, enter the following:<br />

-> user thomas password techpubs<br />

For information about creating a user and setting up a password, see “Creating a User” on page 6-8.<br />

2 Configure the user privileges (and SNMP access) if the user should have privileges that are different<br />

than those set up for the default user account. For example:<br />

-> user thomas read-write domain-network ip-helper telnet<br />

For information about the default user settings, see the next section. For information about setting up privileges,<br />

see “Configuring Privileges for a User” on page 6-15.<br />

Note. Optional. To verify the user account, enter the show user command. The display is similar to the<br />

following:<br />

-> show user thomas<br />

User name = thomas,<br />

Password expiration = None,<br />

Password allow to be modified date<br />

Account lockout = None,<br />

Password bad attempts = 0,<br />

Read Only for domains = None,<br />

Read/Write for domains = Network ,<br />

Snmp allowed = NO<br />

Console-Only = Disabled<br />

= None,<br />
