6.5 Miscellaneous Apparatus:<br />

6.5.1 150 mm of 100 mm diameter rubber membrane capable of covering the<br />

cylindrical surface area of the specimen.<br />

6.5.2 Two 102 mm O-rings<br />

6.5.3 Caulking gun<br />

6.5.4 Calipers<br />

6.5.5 Spatula<br />

6.5.6 Vacuum source<br />

7. MATERIALS<br />

7.1 The following materials are required:<br />

7.1.1 Clear silicone sealant (e.g., general household sealant, silicon rubber)<br />

7.1.2 Compressed air<br />

7.1.3 40 L of distilled water<br />

8. SAMPLING<br />

8.1 Asphalt binder shall be sampled in accordance with AASHTO T40.<br />

8.2 Aggregate shall be sampled in accordance with AASHTO T2.<br />

8.3 Asphalt concrete mixtures shall be sampled in accordance with AASHTO T168.<br />

9. SPECIMEN PREPARATION<br />

9.1 Prepare an asphalt concrete mixture sample in accordance with sections 9.1, 9.2,<br />

and 9.3 of T247. Prepare a sufficient amount of material to ensure that the final compacted<br />

test specimen is 102 + 4 mm in diameter by 102 + 4 mm in height.<br />

9.2 Subject the asphalt concrete mixture prepared in section 9.1 to short-term aging<br />

in accordance with sections 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3 of T247.<br />
