5. REAGENTS<br />

5.1 Toluene--UV or spectroanalyzed grade.<br />

5.2 Water--distilled or deionized water. Commercially available bottled water is<br />

acceptable.<br />

6. AGGREGATE PREPARATION<br />

6.1 Weigh a 50 + 0.3 g sample (weighed to the nearest 0.001 g) of the minus 4.75<br />

mm aggregate stockpile and dry, uncovered, in a 135°C oven for a minimum of 15 hours.<br />

6.2 Remove the sample from the oven at least 15 minutes prior to adding to the<br />

Erlenmeyer flask and store in a desiccator until needed. Samples not used within 24 hours of<br />

lWhatman No. 42 (VWR 28480-106) has been found to be satisfactory.<br />

2Eppendorf Maxipettor (VWR 53512-930) has been found to be satisfactory.<br />
