have been associated with a high risk of relapse of
89% [76]. Similar results have been found using RQ-
PCR of IgH or TCR gene rearrangements for adults
treated on a recent CALGB study [80]. However, even
a low MRD level (< 10 –3 ) following induction was still
associated with a significant relapse risk of up to
46%. In another prospective trial using qualitative
PCR monitoring of IgH gene rearrangements, MRD kinetics
were compared in precursor-B ALL patients who
achieved prolonged DFS and in those who relapsed [78].
