Academic Policies

When a student has graduated from The Art Ins� tute in
one program, then subsequently begins work in a diff erent
program, grades used in the CGPA of the previous program
will not be applied to the student’s new program CGPA
calcula� on. The grades will be recorded as TR.
Schedules and Registra� on
Quarterly Student Registra� on Procedures
The con� nuing enrollment registra� on for in-school
students takes place during the fi � h through 12 th week of
each academic quarter. Appropriate no� ces regarding the
registra� on period are posted in advance. Much course,
instructor and classroom scheduling takes place in the
short period between registra� on and the start of classes.
Therefore, it is very important that every student register
on � me. Students who register late are subject to delays in
the scheduling process and to course selec� on on a space
available basis.
Program and A� endance Status Change
Once enrolled, a student is assumed to be in con� nuous
enrollment and a� endance, and to be making sa� sfactory
progress un� l gradua� on. The student who alters
this academic progression in any manner is considered to
be making a “status change” which requires approval or
understanding in advance of the changes.
The basic status changes include:
�� a change from one program of study to another program
of study (termed “internal transfer”)
�� a change of a� endance schedules (from part-� me to
full-� me class a� endance, evening to day a� endance
or vice-versa)
�� a withdrawal, suspension or termina� on of studies
�� a course change, addi� on or dele� on
�� transferring from one Art Ins� tute to another Art Ins� -
tute (termed “external transfer”)
Students should no� fy the college of address changes and
changes in emergency informa� on. Students who wish to
request an academic or registra� on status change as noted
above must refer to the Registrar’s Offi ce for procedural
details.

Student Iden� fi ca� on Cards
The student is required to retain a Photo ID card that is
used for various purposes for the dura� on of the program:
for checking out library books and resource materials at
the college Library
for checking out training equipment (see “Property of The
Illinois Ins� tute of Art ”)
for checking in and out of the computer labs
for security iden� fi ca� on
On some campuses, student ID cards must be updated
with a s� cker each quarter in order to be valid.
Course Cut-off date
All students must be cleared to sit in class by the fi rst
day of the second week of the quarter. If the student is
not cleared for class prior to the course cut-off date, the
student is not allowed to start the quarter. Students must
a� end each class by the fi rst scheduled class mee� ng of
the second week of the quarter in order to a� end that
class for that quarter.
Schedule Adjustment Period
Any course that is added or dropped from the student’s
schedule must be processed by the Registrar’s Offi ce prior
to the end of the Schedule Adjustment period. Students
dropping a course during the Schedule Adjustment period
are not charged for the course. Students who have attended
classes during the Schedule Adjustment period and
withdraw completely from school are charged a percentage
of their tui� on based on the last day of a� endance.
The Schedule Adjustment period is printed on the back of
the students’ schedules. The Schedule Adjustment period
is the fi rst Monday of the quarter through the fi rst day of
week two. A� er Schedule Adjustment a student is charged
for all registered classes.
Class Schedules
The student’s class schedule is available on or before
the fi rst day of class each quarter. The Illinois Ins� tute
