Student Aff airs
At The Illinois Ins� tute of Art, the goal of the Student
Aff airs Department is to answer the needs of the student
whether it is for their well-being, their development as
a member of the community or through the educa� onal
process of becoming a life long learner.
The primary func� on of Student Aff airs is to assist students
in comple� ng the educa� onal program of study by providing
a variety of services and ac� vi� es that enhance and
support the academic experience. The services include
academic advising, counseling, disability services, housing
assistance, and student life programming. The extracurricular
and co-cur ricular ac� vi� es and events off ered
by the department are an integral and signifi cant part of
the educa � on process and the student’s experience at the
College.
Academic Advising Services
The Academic Advisors provide students with informa-
� on to assist them in making academic decisions and in
developing an academic plan for successful comple� on of
program requirements and u� liza� on of the full range of
school resources.
Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their
Academic Advisor to discuss progress in their program,
and obtain current course prerequisites. This is a cri� cal
component of the registra� on process in order to ensure
appropriate course sequencing and course selec� on for
the upcoming quarter.
Interna� onal Student Advising

The Illinois Ins� tute of Art. Student Aff airs is the key contact
point for all of our interna� onal students. The department
provides a variety of support services and enrichment
ac� vi� es to help meet the needs of the interna� onal
community at the College.
Student Aff airs assist students who come to The Illinois
Ins� tute of Art by having a designated school offi cial,
Interna� onal Student Advisor, who provides support and
assistance regarding Department of Homeland Security
and procedures for nonimmigrant students such as:
�� obtaining and renewing visas
131 Student Conduct
�� maintaining legal status
�� travel authoriza� ons
�� employment benefi ts
�� informa� on on school transfers
The advisor also off ers a variety of student ac� vi� es that
encourage social interac� on, student development, and
cultural adjustment. The Interna� onal Advisor will meet
with all of the new students during their fi rst week to assist
them with life and study skills, health and safety precau-
� ons, as well as personal and academic issues.
On-Line Academic Advising
All of the Academic Advisors serves as advocates for
students wishing to par� cipate in alternate pla� orms of
educa� on. The online program enhances the academic
experience by elimina� ng the restric� ons of � me and
geographic loca� on. The Advisors also serves as advocates
and liaison staff for those students who are not physically
present on the campus.
Counseling Services
The Illinois Ins� tute of Art recognizes that preparing for a
professional career is a challenging process which involves
personal growth and development. The Student Support
and Disabili� es Coordinator helps students with the
transi� on to college life, serves as a resource for students
dealing with personal issues that impact their academic
development and supports them as they make their way to
gradua� on.
The college provides confi den� al short-term counseling,
crisis interven� on, and community referral services
through the Wellness Corpora� on Student Assistance
Program (SAP), for a wide range of concerns, including rela�
onship issues, family problems, loneliness, depression,
and alcohol or drug abuse. Services are available 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week. The Counseling offi ce also off ers programs
on mental health, substance abuse and public safety
quarter, as well as small discussion groups.
