CAREER SERVICES
The Career Services Department at The Illinois Ins� tute of
Art prides itself on assis� ng students and newly graduated
students to fi nd appropriate jobs for all stages of the educa�
onal process. This includes assis� ng eligible students to
pursue part-� me jobs while in school, industry part-� me
jobs and internships later in the educa� onal process, and
entry-level industry related posi� ons upon gradua� on. In
addi� on, the department off ers instruc� on on job search
strategies, resume wri� ng, interviewing and networking.
The staff of the Career Services department increases
employer awareness of our students and graduates’ capabili�
es through membership in professional organiza� ons,
a� endance at trade shows, and on-site visits to businesses.
Most importantly the staff develops and cul� vates rela-
� onships with employers allowing them to stay on top of
industry trends. Addi� onally, Career Services invites employers
to speak on campus, a� end the quarterly Por� olio
Show, hosts job fairs, and schedules on-site interviews.
Part-Time Employment and Internship Support
If students need extra money to make ends meet, Career
Services is here to help. Career Services has a network
of local companies that depend on students as part-� me
workers. These companies a� end school-sponsored part-
� me job fairs and recruit the talented students of The
Illinois Ins� tute of Art every quarter.. As students near
gradua� on, Career Services can assist in fi nding industry
part-� me work and/or internship opportuni� es in their
fi eld of study. Career Services can help students get that
fi rst taste of the industry through business contacts and
matching skills with employer needs. Some programs
require an internship as a component of students’ stud-

ies, while some do not. But whether it is required or not,
an internship is an excellent opportunity to put the skills
learned in class into ac� on and can add value to a resume.
Career Services has an extensive database of industry
contacts to help students fi nd an internship that fi ts their
needs. Career Services also gives students � ps and tools
to guide them through the process. An internship can be a
tremendous learning experience that can be helpful when
applying for an entry-level posi� on in the fi eld. Students
are encouraged to meet with Career Services to discuss
the steps necessary to pursue that fi rst experience in the
industry.
Graduate Assistance
Once students are ready to graduate, it is � me to search
for full-� me entry-level industry posi� ons. If students have
taken advantage of industry speakers and events sponsored
by Career Services, joined trade industry student
groups and a� ended professional organiza� onal mee� ngs,
they have already started the networking process. Graduates
work closely with the Career Services staff to match
their skills to the needs of prospec� ve employers. Each
program has an advisor that provides a personalized, comprehensive
service tailored to the needs of the graduate.
With the help of Career Services, students’ resumes are reviewed,
interviewing skills are honed, and the interviewing
process begins. As part of the gradua� on ritual, a por� olio
show is held that provides the graduates an opportunity to
show their work to many poten� al employers.. Although,
The Illinois Ins� tute of Art does not guarantee employment
or any par� cular level of compensa� on following
gradua� on, the Career Services staff works hard to cul� -
vate employment opportuni� es for graduates and match
job leads with qualifi ed candidates. Graduates who confi ne
employment considera� ons to one geographical area may
limit employment opportuni� es available to them.
Alumni Services
The Illinois Ins� tute of Art encourages alumni to maintain
contact with the school through alumni events, gallery
showings, exhibi� ons, and mailings. More informa� on
