Academic Policies
in advance of the date, place, and � me of the hearing.
The hearing is conducted by an individual who does not
have a direct interest in the outcome of the hearing.
That individual may be an offi cial of The Illinois Ins� tute
of Art. The student is aff orded a forum for the opportunity
to present evidence relevant to the issues raised in
the original request to amend the student’s educa� on
records. The student may be assisted by other people,
including an a� orney.
4. The Illinois Ins� tute of Art prepares a wri� en decision
based solely on the evidence presented at the hearing.
The decision includes a summary of the evidence, and
the reasons for the decision.
5. If, as a result of the hearing, The Illinois Ins� tute of
Art decides that the informa� on is inaccurate, misleading,
or otherwise in viola� on of the privacy rights of the
student, it (a) amends the record accordingly; and (b)
informs the student of the amendment in wri� ng.
6. If, as a result of the hearing, The Illinois Ins� tute of
Art decides that the informa� on in the educa� on record
is not inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in viola-
� on of the privacy rights of the student, it informs the
student of the right to place a statement in the record
commen� ng on the contested informa� on in the record
or sta� ng why he or she disagrees with the decision of
the school.
7. If a statement is placed in the educa� on records
of a student under paragraph six above, The Illinois
Ins� tute of Art will: maintain the statement with the
contested part of the record for as long as the record
is maintained; and disclose the statement whenever it
discloses the por� on of the record to which the statement
relates.
Student Right to File a Complaint
A student has the right to fi le a complaint with the United
States Department of Educa� on concerning alleged failures
byte Illinois Ins� tute of Art to comply with the requirements

Discipline Policies and Procedures
The Illinois Ins� tute of Art recognizes its students as responsible
and dedicated men and women who are preparing
for career employment. An integral part of their career
and professional development is the expecta� on that they
conduct themselves during the educa� onal process in the
same manner as is expected in an employment situa� on.
The Illinois Ins� tute of Art reserves the right to suspend or
to terminate any student who displays conduct detrimental
to the educa� onal environment or to the well-being of fellow
students, faculty, staff members and guests within The
Illinois Ins� tute of Art or at any school-sponsored ac� vity
or facility. This includes viola� ons of the following:

�� Student Conduct Policy
�� Drug-free Workplace and Campus
Student Disciplinary Review Process
Any member of The Illinois Ins� tute of Art community
i.e., faculty, staff , student, may fi le a complaint against any
student for misconduct or for otherwise being in viola-
� on of The Illinois Ins� tute of Art policies. All complaints
against individuals who violate The Illinois Ins� tute of Art
Discipline Polices should be submi� ed in wri� ng to the appropriate
administrator as follows:
�� Academic Honesty Policy viola� ons should be submitted
in wri� ng to the Vice President or Dean of Academic
Aff airs in the offi ce of Academic Aff airs.
�� Student Conduct Policy viola� ons should be submi� ed
in wri� ng to the Dean of Student Aff airs in the Student
Aff airs offi ce.
�� Drug-free Workplace and Campus viola� ons should be
submi� ed in wri� ng to the Dean of Student Aff airs in
the Student Aff airs offi ce.
Academic Honesty
All students who copy or otherwise plagiarize the work of
another or who otherwise display conduct detrimental to
their own academic progress are subject to disciplinary
