Expected results and
exploitation plans
This project aims to demonstrate a multifeedstock
biodiesel production facility that uses
a mixture of animal tallow and RVO, rather than
virgin oils. The plant will have the potential to
produce 45 000 tonnes of biodiesel per annum,
which represents 14% of the current UK diesel
market when used as a 2% blend with mineral
diesel. In addition, the project seeks to develop
and demonstrate a new supply chain providing
a complete integrated solution for the safe
treatment and recovery of energy from animal
by-products.
Progress to date
The project began in January 2003 and is,
therefore, at a very early stage with literature
reviews and limited scientific analysis having
been undertaken. The site for the biodiesel
plant has now reached the stage at which
infrastucture installation will begin by
September 2003, with full production expected
to begin in the summer of 2004.
