NBAEM – NBAFF Nursing-Facilitated Education – Patient education and counseling<br />

NBAEM Sexual assault pregnancy risk education initial 30 minutes<br />

Providing a patient with education and/or information regarding her risk <strong>of</strong> pregnancy following a sexual<br />

assault. For additional time, use NBAEN. Service is billed in 30-minute increments.<br />

NBAEN Sexual assault pregnancy risk education each additional 15 minutes<br />

Providing a patient with education and/or information regarding her risk <strong>of</strong> pregnancy following a sexual<br />

assault. Use NBAEN in conjunction with NBAEM. Service is billed in 15-minute increments.<br />

NBAEO Bereavement support<br />

Providing a patient’s family and/or friends with bereavement support after the patient’s death.<br />

NBAEP Ambulation training<br />

Providing a patient with training and/or instruction to maintain and/or restore autonomic and voluntary<br />

body functions during his or her treatment and/or recovery from an illness or injury.<br />

NBAEQ Location transfer education<br />

Teaching a caregiver the proper techniques to move a patient from one location to another.<br />

NBAER Ostomy irrigation education<br />

Teaching a patient and/or caregiver the proper techniques to flush or wash out the patient’s ostomy.<br />

NBAES Cardiac care education<br />

Teaching a cardiac patient the proper techniques to limit his or her complications resulting from an<br />

imbalance between myocardial oxygen supply and demand with symptoms <strong>of</strong> impaired cardiac function.<br />

NBAET Pacemaker care education<br />

Teaching a patient how to properly manage and/or care for his or her pacemaker.<br />

NBAEU Hospice care training<br />

Teaching an alternate caregiver the proper techniques to care for a terminally ill hospice patient.<br />

NBAEV Chemotherapy education<br />

Providing a patient with education and/or information regarding his or her having chemotherapy.<br />

NBAEW Insulin injection education<br />

Teaching a patient and/or caregiver the proper techniques to administer insulin to a patient.<br />

NBAEX Medication side effects education<br />

Teaching a patient the proper techniques to control his or her reaction(s) to prescribed medication(s).<br />

NBAEY Radiation therapy education<br />

Providing a patient with education and/or information regarding his or her having radiation therapy.<br />

NBAEZ Allergic reaction education<br />

Teaching a patient the proper techniques to minimize and/or alleviate his or her allergic reaction(s).<br />

NBAFA Diabetic care education<br />

Teaching a diabetic patient the proper techniques to manage his or her diabetic condition.<br />

NBAFB Feeding education<br />

Teaching a caregiver the proper techniques to feed a patient that is unable to feed himself or herself.<br />

NBAFD Patient environmental safety education<br />

Teaching a patient and/or caregiver the proper techniques to prevent and/or minimize the patient’s<br />

environmental injury or injuries. Service is billed in 15-minute increments.<br />

NBAFE Equipment use and safety education<br />

Teaching a patient how to properly use his or her equipment (for example, crutches, wheelchairs, and/or<br />

oxygen tents) to prevent and/or minimize his or her risk <strong>of</strong> injury or injuries from equipment. For prosthetic<br />

movement use BCAAB.<br />

NBAFF Mobility aid education<br />

Teaching a patient the proper techniques to use a mobility aid(s) to improve functioning with his or her<br />

mobility deficit.<br />
