Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). ABC codes are part of a comprehensive coding system that supports research,
management and commerce in the fields of alternative medicine, nursing, behavioral health and other forms of
integrative healthcare. All related coding processes and systems, including the five-character alphabetic ABC codes,
two-character practitioner identifiers, terminology, product and service descriptions, expanded definitions, practitionerspecific
