2 Basic functions This section explains the basic functionality of your phone. For more detailed explanation of your phone’s features please refer to the later chapters. Powering up To turn your phone on, press and hold the båÇ key and wait until the phone display lights up. To turn your phone off, press and hold the båÇ key until the phone turns off. Making phone calls Make sure you are in an area where a signal can be received. Look for the signal strength icon on the main screen. The more bars you see in this symbol, the stronger the signal. If there are no bars, move to where the signal strength is better. When the phone has been idle for a while with no signal, it changes to power save mode. When you see “Power Save” on your phone’s screen, press any key to return to normal operating mode. You can make a phone call in one of the following ways. Call using a number At the main screen: Enter a phone number. NK Press the pÉåÇ key. OK Call using a contact At the main screen: Select `çåí~Åíë to open your contacts list. NK Highlight a contact and press the pÉåÇ key. OK Call using voice commands You can use voice commands to call a contact from your voice dial list or to dial a phone number. For more information, see “Voice recognition” on page 63. Redial a number At the main screen: Press the pÉåÇ key twice to open your NK call history. Highlight a phone number or contact and OK press pÉåÇ the key. To redial the last number called, received or qáéW missed, press pÉåÇ the key three times. Answering phone calls When a call comes in, the phone rings, vibrates, or lights up. The phone number of the caller also appears if it is not restricted. If the number is stored in your contacts list, the contact name appears. You can answer a phone call in one of the following ways. 12 Powering up
Answer using earpiece Press the pÉåÇ key. Answer using speakerphone Press the péÉ~âÉêéÜçåÉ key. Answer using flip You can set the phone to answer immediately when you open the flip. This feature does not apply to incoming data or fax calls. See “Open to answer” on page 51. Ending phone calls Press the båÇ key. Verifying your phone number To verify your phone number, select jÉåì > pÉííáåÖë > mÜçåÉ=áåÑç > _ìáäÇ=áåÑç. Activating voice dialing At the main screen: NK Press the pÉåÇ key once. OK Follow the prompts. For more information, see “Voice recognition” on page 63. Taking a picture At the main screen: Press and hold the `~ãÉê~ key to start the NK camera. OK Focus on the image and select `~éíìêÉ. For more information, see “Pictures” on page 43. Using custom menu You can use the custom menu to quickly access your frequently used functions. With the QWERTY keypad, press the `ìëíçã= NK key to access the custom menu. ãÉåì Select bÇáí. OK Scroll through the list of options and press PK to select your desired option(s). A check lh mark appears next to each selected option. (You can lh press again to remove check marks.) Select p~îÉ after checking all your desired QK option(s). Your selected options appear in the custom menu. Scroll through the list of your selected RK functions in the custom menu and lh press to access your desired one. <strong>User</strong> Guide 13
