Awareness of services, decision-making and development needs. Employees
working in substance abuse treatment units considered services and different forms
of support for families with children to be fairly well known, but the awareness of
legislation that was applicable to services was thought to be weaker. Improving
preventive services, early intervention, access to services and collaboration were
seen as important. The municipality’s economic situation was the most significant
factor in developing services, while the views of children and families were seen as
being of little importance. Feedback from services was rarely asked of children
themselves.
Knowledge arising from research is useful for managers working in the social,
health and education field, to developers, educators and researchers, to employees
working with children, to people with substance abuse problems and their families,
well as for students in this field. Moreover, it can inform political and public decision-making.
