Un photographe à la mode
Tandis que le Grand Palais
honore actuellement le parcours
d’Helmut Newton, l’espace Soardi
s’intéresse aux célèbres clichés de
mode réalisés par William Klein, un
des artistes les plus importants du
XX

e siècle. Dans les années 50, le
jeune homme, qui a grandi à New
York, est, avec Richard Avedon, le
photographe attitré de Vogue. Son
directeur artistique de l’époque,
Alexander Liberman, impressionné
par le travail de celui qui apprit la
peinture auprès de Fernand Léger,
lui propose de financer ses projets
personnels. William Klein sillonne
New York et en tire un « journal
photographique » qui va faire
sa notoriété. À Nice, dans
l’exposition « In & Out of Fashion »,
une vingtaine de photos de l’artiste
multidisciplinaire sont présentées

the Grand Palais in Paris is presently
honouring Helmut Newton’s career,
the Soardi gallery in Nice is
spotlighting the celebrated fashion
photography of William Klein, an
important 20th-century artist. Klein
grew up in New York and first
trained as a painter under Fernand
Léger. As a young man, in the 50s
he worked as a Vogue
photographer along with Richard
Avedon. At the time the magazine’s
artistic director was Alexander
Liberman, who was so impressed by
Klein’s work that he offered to
finance the photographer’s personal
projects. Klein explored New York
taking photographs he published as
a “photo essay”, which brought him
fame. The Nice exhibition In & Out
of Fashion presents a score of this
versatile artist’s photos until 30 June.

Chicago, un spectacle musical qui fait monter l’adrénaline.
COMÉDIE MUSICALE
De Chicago à Monaco…
À l’origine de Chicago, un des musicals les
plus fameux de la planète, un fait divers sordide
qui défraya la chronique et les bonnes mœurs
des années 20. Roxie, une jeune choriste prête à
tout pour réussir, assassine son amant et
manipule son procès afin de devenir une star du
show-biz. Une pièce de théâtre est créée en
1927, puis c’est au tour du génial Bob Fosse de
l’adapter au music-hall, en 1975. On se souvient
tous de la version cinéma très réussie de Rob
Marshall en 2002, avec Renée Zellweger et
Catherine Zeta-Jones au top de leur forme,
livrant des prestations de danse et de chant
époustouflantes. L’adrénaline sera certainement
de mise, du 20 au 24 juin, à Monaco qui
accueille le musical le « plus sexy » de la terre !

shocked the public in the 1920s. Chorus girl Roxie
will do anything to become famous; she murders
her lover then manipulates her case so she
becomes a tabloid star. Chicago started off as a
play in 1926, which the talented Bob Fosse
turned into a stage musical in 1975. Then Rob
Marshall made his hugely successful film version
in 2002, starring Renée Zellweger and Catherine
Zeta-Jones in breathtaking form, performing
fabulous song and dance routines. The adrenalin
is sure to flow on 20 to 24 June when the world’s
sexiest musical comes to the Monaco stage!
