HIV-POSITVE GAY MEN<br />
The objective of this study was to examine psychosexual t<strong>en</strong>d<strong>en</strong>cies<br />
associated with sexual depression among HIV positive gay m<strong>en</strong>. Eighty<br />
eight HIV seropositive gay males were recruted from various health care<br />
providers' practices and from community groups of Montreal. Psychosexual<br />
t<strong>en</strong>d<strong>en</strong>cies were assessed by the Multidim<strong>en</strong>sional Sexuality Questionnaire<br />
of Snell and Fisher (1991), the Intimate Re<strong>la</strong>tionship Scale of Hetherington<br />
and Soek<strong>en</strong> (1990), and the Nungesser Homosexual Attitudes Inv<strong>en</strong>tory<br />
(1983). Sexual anxiety, fear of sexuality, external sexual control, changes in<br />
intimate re<strong>la</strong>tionship with regu<strong>la</strong>r or occasional partner, and homophobia<br />
were positively re<strong>la</strong>ted with sexual depression. Sexual satisfaction, sexual<br />
esteem, and sexual assertiv<strong>en</strong>ess were negatively re<strong>la</strong>ted with sexual<br />
depression. M<strong>en</strong> who reported being more sexually depressive a/so reported<br />
/ess sexual activities, safer sex practices, and coping efforts concerning sexua/<br />
matters. Counseling programs shou/d be deve/oped to reduce sexual<br />
depression and promote sexua/ health among HIV positive gay m<strong>en</strong>.<br />
