INTERVIEW RESULTS<br />
In<strong>format</strong>ion obtained through in-depth interviews was used to<br />
e<strong>la</strong>borate the process involved in developing perceptions of<br />
susceptibility. First, with respect to the influ<strong>en</strong>ce of cues on<br />
perception, interview results c<strong>la</strong>rified the abs<strong>en</strong>ce of an effect of<br />
participation in educational programmes about AIDS or awar<strong>en</strong>ess of<br />
Safer-Sex on perception of risk. Though both interviewees and<br />
respond<strong>en</strong>ts to the survey demonstrated high levels of knowledge<br />
about HIV transmission and prev<strong>en</strong>tion (for details consult Maticka<br />
Tyndale, 1990, 1991); interviewees also exhibited uncertainty and
