desire; and d) with one's sexual life as a whole. An individual sexual
satisfaction composite score was calculated for each subject with the
above four questions used as a scale, Cronbach a = .87. An additional
question reported on the subject's general satisfaction in regard to
his/her regular sexual partner. Subjects were also asked about their
attitudes toward sexual permissivity (Dupras et al., 1989a); how
religious they would rate themselves-from very to not at aIl
religiaus-, and how frequently they attend religious services-from
always to never.
RESULTS
As it will be shown, variables leading to the inclusion of oral-genital
sex in one's sexual scenario are not the same as the correlates of the
frequency of this sexual behavior. Hence, findings about incidence of
oral-genital sex will be presented first. In the next section, attention
will be focused on the rates of oral-genital se x, presented only for the
168 active subjects-that is those who have effectively engaged in
active oral-genital sex during 1987.
Incidence
Among married or cohabiting heterosexual respondents, 79.7%
have reported the presence of active oral-genital behaviors in their
sexual scenarios during 1987, as many men (77.5%) as women (81.8%).
However, the incidence of this sexual behavior was strongly
associated with age. Whereas 90.1 % of subjects aged 18-34 years have
reported having performed oral-genital sex during 1987, 81.2% of
those aged 35-54 did so, as compared to only 37.9% in the 55 years and
older group (X2 = 39.1, P < .001), the difference being significant only
with the latter group.
The type of relationship also seemed to have an influence on the
occurrence of oral-genital sex. Among cohabiting subjects, 87.9% have
reported they had performed this sexual behavior during 1987, against
73.5% among married individuals (X2 = 13.1, P < .001). Moreover,
among new dyad subjects-whose relationship has lasted less than
two years-aH have reported incidence of oral-genital sex. The
proportion was 92.5% among yaunger dyad subjects-whose
relationship has lasted from two to ten years-, and significantly
lower, 64.6%, among aider dyad subjects-whose relationship has
lasted more than ten years-(x2 = 27.1, P < .001).
Subjects with higher than average education-13 years or more of
schooling-were significantly more numerous in engaging in oral-
