Renal AML is a benign tumor of the kidney, although a rare subtype
(epithelioid angiomyolipoma) may behave more aggressively. Its discovery is often
incidental to the imaging data.
The aim of our study is to determine the epidemiological, clinical, paraclinical,
histological and the therapeutic features of management of this disease; compare
them with different published series, in order to draw conclusions that can help
improving the management of our patients.
We conducted aretrospective study of medical records of patients treated for
renal angiomyolipoma in the urology department at university hospital of Hassan II
of Fez, over aperiod of four year from the month of January 2009 to December
2012. For each case we analyzed the epidemiological, clinical, paraclinical,
histological and therapeutic modalities.
We identified eight medical records. Six patients were female and two were
male. The average age of patients was 42 years. Two patients were followed for STB
since childhood. The diagnosis was made by computerized tomography in all cases
by the demonstration of fat density within the tumor that is pathognomonic of AML.
Seven patients had received atotal nephrectomy, six nephrectomy for sporadic AML
and one for AML under STB. The main indications of nephrectomy in our series were
almost complete destruction of the kidney and its replacement with AML, large and
