Coupe du Monde de Ski Alpin Messieurs
Créée en 1928, l’Arlberg Kandahar a été la première
compétition alpine internationale à combiner descente et
slalom. C’est à Chamonix que les membres du ski club de
Grande-Bretagne venaient passer leurs tests sous l’autorité
d’Henry Lunn, père d’Arnold, créateur de la célèbre épreuve
de l’Arlberg Kandahar. En 1948, Chamonix accueille pour
la première fois l’épreuve de l’Arlberg Kandahar. A cette
époque, la course avait lieu sur la piste des Glaciers aux
Bossons et le jeune skieur chamoniard James Couttet ,
originaire du village des Bossons, réussit un fameux doublon
en gagnant la Descente et le Combiné.
C’est sur la “piste verte” des Houches que se donnent
rendez-vous ensuite les grands noms du ski mondial : de Luc
Alphand à Antoine Dénériaz, en passant par Bode Miller, Ivica
Kostelic, Benjamin Raich, Hermann Maier, Kjetil Aamodt…
Les 4 et 5 février 2012 sur La “piste Verte
des Houches” se tiendra la 18ème édition
de cette coupe du monde
La “Verte des Houches” est une piste mythique dans le
massif du Mont-Blanc. En réalité, c’est une piste noire de
870 m. de dénivelé pour 3 343 m. de long. Une série de
passages très techniques et de sauts, dont la Cassure et
le Goulet, font de cette descente l’une des plus belles au
monde. Les meilleurs skieurs la dévalent en deux minutes.
Le départ de la course se situe au sommet du Prarion,
point de vue magnifique à 360° sur les chaînes du Mont-
Blanc et des Fiz.

Created in 1928, the Arlberg Kandahar was the first
international alpine ski competition to combine downhill
and slalom. Members of the Ski Club of Great Britain came
to Chamonix to take their tests under the authority of Henry
Lunn, father of Arnold who devised the famous Arlberg
Kandahar race. In 1948, Chamonix hosted the Arlberg
Kandahar race for the first time. In those days the race was
held on the Glaciers piste at Les Bossons, and the young
Chamonix skier James Couttet, who came from the village
of Les Bossons, completed a famous double by winning
both the Downhill and the Combined. These days, it is on La
Verte piste in Les Houches that the big names in world skiing
compete against each other, from Luc Alphand to Antoine
Dénériaz, and including racers such as Bode Miller, Ivica
Kostelic, Benjamin Raich, Hermann Maier and Kjetil Aamodt.
On 4 and 5 February 2012 on La Verte
piste in Les Houches this World Cup race
will be held for the 18th time.
The ‘Verte des Houches’, as it is known, is one of the
legendary pistes of the Mont Blanc range. In reality it is a
black run 3,343 m long with a vertical drop of 870 m. A
series of highly technical sections and jumps, including the
Cassure and the Goulet, make this one of the finest downhills
in the world. The best skiers thunder down it in two minutes.
The race start is at the top of Le Prarion, from where there is
a magnificent 360° view of the Mont Blanc and Fiz mountain
ranges.

Ski de fond LeS HoUCHeS
Les Houches, 10km de pistes sur la station. Une boucle
autour du lac des Chavants. Le domaine d’altitude,
accessible par la télécabine du Prarion, requiert l’acquisition
préalable d’un aller-retour piéton. Deux itinéraires combinent
champs de neige et passages en forêts. Une courte variante
est possible, c’est le “retour des fatigués”. Liaisons possibles
selon l’enneigement avec le col de Voza.

Aux Houches, un itinéraire tracé et balisé double le domaine
nordique à l’arrivée de la télécabine du Prarion. Dans le
village, au-dessus de la gare des Houches, découvrez
l’itinéraire des Crêts, “le sentier des cerfs”.

Aux Houches, en altitude, un chemin piéton part du
téléphérique de Bellevue, longe la ligne du Tramway du
Mont-Blanc, et rejoint le col de Voza. Dans le village,
découvrez les hameaux préservés des Chavants et de
Vaudagne.

Plusieurs sentiers raquettes balisés depuis la gare, la Maison
de l’Alpage, située au centre du village jusqu’au lac Vert ou à
Montvauthier ; à travers les vergers, la forêt et les différents
hameaux du bassin de Servoz.

Servoz vous offrira au gré de ses routes et de ses hameaux
une architecture préservée dans le village le plus ensoleillé
de la Vallée de Chamonix.

Cross-country skiing LeS HoUCHeS
Les Houches, 10 km of trails around the resort. One circuit
around the Lac des Chavants. Before using the high-level
area, accessed via the Prarion gondola lift, a pedestrian
return ticket must be purchased. Two trails run through a
combination of open snowfields and forested sections. A
shorter alternative route is available for those who ‘run out of
steam’. Links to the Col de Voza, snow permitting.
Snowshoeing trails LeS HoUCHeS
In Les Houches, prepared and waymarked snowshoeing trails
run alongside the nordic skiing trails from the top of the Prarion
gondola lift. In the village there is a trail along the ridge above
Les Houches railway station called the ‘Sentier des Cerfs’.
Winter walking trails LeS HoUCHeS
In Les Houches, a high-level winter walking trail starts from
the Bellevue cable car and follows the line of the Mont
Blanc Tram up to the Col de Voza. In the village there is a
walk exploring the unspoilt hamlets of Les Chavants and
Vaudagne.
Snowshoeing trails SeRVoZ
There are several waymarked snowshoeing trails from the
railway station and the Maison de l’Alpage in the village
centre to the Lac Vert and Montvauthier, running through
orchards, forest and the different hamlets in the Servoz basin.
Winter walking trails SeRVoZ
Follow the roads and explore the hamlets, admiring the
wonderfully preserved architecture of Servoz, the sunniest
village in the Chamonix Valley.
