La raquette
Si vous pratiquez cette activité en
autonomie, quel que soit votre niveau,
vous devez préparer vos sorties, vous
informer sur les itinéraires, sur les risques
d’avalanches car la stabilité du manteau
neigeux est susceptible d’évoluer rapidement.
N’hésitez pas à vous renseigner auprès de
l’office de haute montagne à Chamonix,
ou mieux de faire appel aux services d’un
accompagnateur en moyenne montagne.
itinéraires Raquettes
Il faut un jour avoir fait “la trace” pour comprendre
l’engouement que suscite la pratique de la raquette.
Une multitude de petites randonnées à la journée ou à la
demi-journée sont possibles.
A Vallorcine, chaussez les raquettes et profitez pleinement
de la nature enneigée, en toute quiétude sur les sentiers
balisés de la commune. Une carte gratuite des itinéraires
raquettes de toute la Vallée de Chamonix est à votre
disposition dans les Offices de Tourisme de la vallée.
2 itinéraires :
• Les Granges en passant par “sur le Rocher” (1h30 aller/retour)
• Le rocher des Saix Blanc au départ du plan Envers.
(1h30 aller/retour), sur l’autre versant.
Une idée de randonnée à la journée (700m de denivelé) :
• La montée à l’Alpage de Loriaz : un joli spot raquette
Cette splendide randonnée est à la portée de tous (4h aller/
retour). Départ depuis le hameau du Couteray, on emprunte
la piste forestière en direction de Loriaz, au niveau du
hameau des Granges (1450m) après une petite halte et
un coup d’œil en direction du domaine animé des Grands
Montets, on se replonge dans le calme de la forêt pour
atteindre une bifurcation. Continuer la piste à gauche, et
après 4 grandes traversées on débouche sur le beau plateau
au pied de l’alpage. Encore ½ heure de marche dans ce bel
espace et l’on atteint les écuries de Loriaz blotties sous la
neige. Casse-croûte. Photo. Sieste et retour dans la vallée par
le même itinéraire.

Snowshoeing routes
Until you’ve experienced making fresh tracks in the snow you
won’t appreciate why snowshoeing is so popular.
There is a host of full-day or half-day walks in the area.
At Vallorcine, put on your snowshoes and make the most
of the snowy countryside with complete peace of mind on
the waymarked trails around the area. A free map of the
snowshoeing routes throughout the Chamonix Valley is
available from the valley tourist offices.
2 routes:
• Les Granges via ‘sur le Rocher’ (1 hr 30 there and back)
• Le Rocher des Saix Blanc from Plan Envers.

Idea for a day walk (total climb of 700 m):
• Up to the Alpage de Loriaz pastures: a lovely spot
for snowshoeing
This wonderful walk is suitable for everyone (4 hrs there and
back). Starting from the hamlet of Le Couteray, you take the
forest track towards Loriaz. At the hamlet of Les Granges
(1450 m), after a short stop to take in the view over to the
busy ski area at les Grands Montets, you immerse yourself
once again into the peace and quiet of the forest, continuing
to a junction in the track. Take the left-hand track, and after
forty minutes of steady climbing you come out on the beautiful
plateau at the foot of the mountain pastures. Another half an
hour’s walking through the lovely surroundings takes you to
the Écuries de Loriaz barns huddled under the snow. Eat your
packed lunch, take a photo, have a nap and then return to the
valley by retracing your steps.

Piste de luge
Derrière l’office de tourisme, une piste de luge damée vous
accueille tout l’hiver. Une course nocturne est organisée tous
les lundis des vacances scolaires à 17h, avec jus de pomme
et vin chaud offerts par l’Office de Tourisme.

Children’s snowshoeing
Trapper trips (for 8 to 12-year-olds)
Supervised by a mountain leader, these trips take place in
the late-afternoon and evening and include animal tracking,
igloo building and sledging. Equipment provided; departing
at 4.45pm, returning at 7pm

Other activities in the village
Sledging run
There is a groomed sledging run behind the tourist office,
which is open all winter. An evening race is held at 5pm
every Monday during the school holidays, with a free hot
apple juice or mulled wine provided by the Tourist Office.
