Even as that stream which holdeth its
own course
The first from Monte Veso tow’rds the
East,
Upon the left-hand slope of Apennine,
Which is above called Acquacheta….

land that was of great inspiration
to the exile Dante Alighieri
about to write his “Comedy”
was San Godenzo, last stronghold of
the land of Tuscany before crossing
the border towards Romagna in the
heart of the National Park of the Casentinesi
Forests. The Poet Master
loved those places so much that he
mentioned the waterfall of Acquacheta
in his “Inferno”. But not just that:
legend has it that the beautiful sultry
area called “Gorga Nera” (lately the
subject of an environmental recovery)
inspired Alighieri with the wellknown
“Selva Oscura” (Dark Wood).
That Dante Alighieri passed through
San Godenzo is now a fact: it was
1302 when in the Benedictine Abbey,
Come quel fiume c’ha proprio cammino
prima da Monte Veso inver levante,
dalla sinistra costa d’Appennino,
che si chiama Acquacheta...

DANTE ALIGHIERI AN EXILE BETWEEN TUSCANY AND EMILIA-ROMAGNA
DANTE ALIGHIERI ESULE TRA TOSCANA ED EMILIA-ROMAGNA
Una terra che fu di grande ispirazione
per l’esule Dante Alighieri
in procinto di scrivere
la sua “Commedia”. Parliamo di San
Godenzo, ultimo baluardo di terra di
Toscana prima di sconfinare verso
la Romagna, nel cuore del Parco Nazionale
delle Foreste Casentinesi. Il
Sommo Poeta amava talmente tanto
quei luoghi da menzionare nell’Inferno
la cascata dell’Acquacheta. Ma
non solo: una leggenda narra anche
che la bellissima zona umida denominata
Gorga Nera (luogo recentemente
oggetto di recupero ambientale) abbia
ispirato all’Alighieri addirittura
la conosciutissima “Selva Oscura”.
Che Dante Alighieri sia passato da San
Godenzo è ormai risaputo: era infatti
il 1302 quando nell’Abbazia Benedettina,
che ancora oggi sorge all’interno
