abril 1957. Estudió ciencias Naturales en la
Universidad civil de Santiago de Compostela
c. 1320). Vida y obras. De ese mismo autor
publicó, en 1981, una edición crítica de las
Quaestiones disputatae de dilectione Dei (cf.
Spicilegium Bonaventurianum vol. XXI, pp.
330) y, en 1993, las Quaestiones disputatae
de traductione humanae naturae a primo parente
(Spicilegium Bonaventurianum, vol.
XXVII, pp. 460).
A pesar de esa intensa labor intelectual,
el P. César fue muy activo en la atención
pastoral a diversas comunidades reli-giosas
y a los ancianos y enfer-mos que ellas atendían.
Fue también profesor y ecónomo del
Pontificio Ateneo Antonianum, Vicario y
Discreto de la casa. Quienes hemos tenido
la suerte de compartir algunos años con él,
damos gracias a Dios por el don precioso
que en el P. César nos ha regalado. Su vida
no ha sido en vano.
Royal Oak, USA, 14.04.2005
Lawrence Brady was born in Detroit,
Michigan, on May 22nd, 1922 to Hubert
and Agnes (Sweeney) Brady. He was the
youngest of five children. His education began
at Gesu Elementary and University of
Detroit High School. He completed his last
two years of high school at Saint Francis
Seminary. He entered the Franciscan novitiate
at Saint Anthony Shrine in 1941 and a
year later professed simple vows to Provin-
NECROLOGIA
153
cial Minister Adalbert Rolfes. He continued
his education at Duns Scotus College,
where he made his Solemn Profession in
1945. He completed his preparation for ordination
at Holy Family Theologate in Oldenburg,
Indiana, where he was ordained by
Archbishop Paul Schulte in 1950. That
same year he went on to Catholic University
of America for graduate studies in Canon
Law, where he received his JCL in 1952 and
later his JCD in 1963.
Mel's first assignment took him to Saint
Francis Seminary as teacher and dean of
discipline. After just three years, he was invited
to Rome for two years to assist the
Economo General of the Order. When he
returned to the United States, he was assigned
to Duns Scotus College as professor
and Master of Clerics. It was at that time
that he also served as secretary for the meetings
of the OFM Provincials of North
America - before the ESC existed.
In October of 1962, Mel went to the
Philippines. His fond memory of that era of
his life was accompanying our Bishop
Rembert Kowalski, OFM, to Rome for the
opening of Vatican Council II. In the Philippines,
Mel served as Prefect of Studies for
Our Lady of Angels Seminary (college and
theologate), newly founded by the five cooperating
provinces working in the Philippines
[often considered the seedbed of what
would eventually be the new Province of
San Pedro Bautista]. He also held many
other positions including chair of the canon
law committees for bishops' conferences
and major superiors of men, tribunal judge,
canon law professor for three seminaries
and chair of the major superiors' Task Force
for Political Detainees.
In 1977, Mel was summoned to the General
Curia to become the assistant to the General
Secretary for the Missions. Later, from
1980 to 1985, her served as the General Secretary.
That was a time of great emphasis on
the missionary charism of the Order, involving
Mel in the Africa Project, the inter-Franciscan
congress of Mattli Switzerland, the Islam
Commission, the China Commission
and the founding of the Franciscan International
Mission Council. It was at this time
