NO AMBIENTE COMPETITIVO ATUAL –
CasO: JOINT VENTURE LG.PhILIPs DIsPLaYs
Cynthia Hisako Sakaguchi Ito* e Prof. Dr. Sérgio Crispim**
resUMO aBsTraCT
O atual ambiente competitivo,
caracterizado por um mundo
altamente globalizado, tecnologias
dinâmicas e pela rápida velocidade
das mudanças tem revolucionado o
mundo dos negócios, fazendo com
que as empresas busquem constantemente
alternativas para se manterem
competitivas no mercado. Na última
década, houve uma considerável ampliação,
no cenário internacional, dos
processos de fusões e aquisições, assim
como de alianças estratégicas e parcerias
com a finalidade de adaptação ao
novo cenário. Um desses processos é
a joint venture. Apesar da crescente
popularidade, as joint ventures tornaram-se
uma forma de organização
muito complexa e problemática. Em
um estudo sobre joint ventures formadas
entre 1924 e 1985, Harrigan
constatou que apenas 46% tiveram
êxito. Nesse contexto, a LG.Philips
Displays mostra-se um estudo de caso
interessante, mesmo porque é uma
empresa que se originou de outras
duas, de culturas diferentes (a LG é
uma empresa de origem coreana e
cultura oriental, enquanto a Philips
é de origem holandesa e cultura ocidental),
e tem obtido sucesso desde a
sua formação.
The current competitive environment
characterized by a highly
globalized world, dynamic technologies
and the fast speed of changes, has
revolutionized business world, leading
companies to frequently search
for alternatives, to keep competitive
in the market. In the last decade,
there was a noticed amplification,
on international scene, of merging
and acquisitioning processes, as well
as strategical alliances and partnerships
with the purpose of adaptation
to this new scene. One of these processes
is the joint venture. Despite
the increasing popularity, joint ventures
have become a complex and
problematic kind of organization. On
a study about joint ventures created
between 1924 and 1985, Harrigan noticed
that only 46% had succeeded.
In this context, LG.Philips Displays reveals
to be an interesting study case,
even because it is a company originated
from other ones, which had
two different cultures (LG is a Korean
company with oriental culture, while
Philips is a Dutch company with occidental
culture) and has gotten success
since this joint.
