industrial reconversion of the industrially developed countries, it is social to draw
services that substitute the property of the product, it is social to occupy ourselves of
the media design: there is nothing more social than the communication, the fashion,
the dimension of the care with the body and its ornamentation. For approximately
forty thousand years, man dedicates his most precious resources to the care and
ornamentation of his own body.
Social design is design, and vice versa. They are contemporaneous expedients
throughout which we want to differentiate these themes between them. All the
energies that modify and transform the artificial have consequences over the social
of man, also and especially the ones that are not projected by design. We could
say, then, that nowadays we got to the consciousness that design is always social,
but not everything that is projected is determined with attention and repercussion
on the social. If we analyze carefully all the artificial projected by man, currently
design works with an insignificant portion, be it in the quantitative point of view
of the productive scale, be it in the point of view of the realized economical value.
The project is not design, this is a minimal part of the project. Design is everyday
more social, we could say that if the produced artificial is not managed in its social
consequences, it is not design; the project is another thing and it is very distant
from taking to itself, with the same systematization, the problem of the social
repercussion of its action.
In the choice of these three words: FUTURE, WELL-BEING AND INTERDEPENDENCE,
as words that, besides many others, show a deep coherence between design
and social and, therefore, between design and human sciences, there is the
consciousness that these three words are the synthesis and, at the same time, the
verification of the social being of design.
The three words are autonomous, but putting them side by side means
building a system in which these three words can no longer act autonomously: the
improvement of the man’s well-being is the reason of design, but this well-being
does not have a single dimension in the present or in the future; the projection of
the human well-being in a long term is the verification of the sustainability of the
projectual action of the designer. At the same time, the interdependence makes
every psychological act, carried by oneself or by a few ones, become social. The
