Nenhum biomarcador sozinho
Abstract
Depression and anxiety in adolescence has been shown to be more
and more frequent today. According to the Pan American Health
Organization, mental disorders can be responsible for 16% of
diseases in adolescents worldwide. The most current diagnostic
method is based on the patient's symptoms, according to the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5).
A biomarker is a measurable biological parameter that allows the
assessment of the patient's metabolism or disease, so it could
become an ally in the diagnosis and treatment of both depression
and anxiety. The objective of this study was to perform a literature
review on the main biomarkers of depression and anxiety in
adolescence. 32 possible specific biomarkers were found, capable
of assessing depression, anxiety and even suicide risk. Of these,
13 were highlighted for being more relevant to the purpose of this
study. No single biomarker can diagnose both mental disorders,
but the possibility of their association with psychological
diagnosis demonstrates a future perspective that laboratory tests
can be of great help in diagnosing mental disorders.
