AYDIN İKTİSAT FAKÜLTESİ
Conclusion:
To conclude, firstly it has to be said that the refugee deal between EU and Turkey has been
somehow working up until today in the sense that it decreased the number of people who tries
to cross the Aegean from Turkey to Greece, although it led the refugees to try more dangerous
road from Libya to Italy and similar unwanted occurrences resulting with the death of hundreds
of refugees are happening largely in Mediterranean rather than in Aegean waters. EU authorities
seems to be contented with the situation that the frequency of human trafficking is diminishing
in the Aegean waters, since EU does not want to end the deal up at the moment. However, as
the critics of the deal has stated before the deal contains many weak points and it is difficult to
implement it in the long run. It can be said that Turkey has signed a favorable deal with EU
which was stated by Davutoğlu, the Turkish prime minister when the deal was signed, that they
made a Kayseri-style bargain. EU has been critised by putting all the eggs in Turkey’s basket,
especially promising accelerating the application of non-visa policy to Turkish citizens. In that
sense, non-visa issue has been forestalled because of Turkey’s terrorism policy. This may be a
proxy for EU not to give Turkey the non-visa concession, however it has potential to break out
the complete refugee deal as well.
