SONARDYNE
Sensors for robotic ships
Sonardyne technology has been selected to
support the world’s largest fleet of ocean-going,
multi-role robotic vessels, which is being
launched by marine robotics company ocean
infinity. Sonardyne’s systems will provide part
of ocean infinity’s new armada fleet with key
sensor technologies for underwater platform
navigation, tracking, control and communications,
as well as ensuring uninterrupted surface
navigation, even when global navigation satellite
system (GNSS) services are degraded or denied.
The robotic fleet that can be launched from any
shoreline on the globe was unveiled in February
2020, and will initially see 17 bespoke stateof-the-art
uncrewed vessels added to ocean infinity’s
existing robotic fleet. The ships, initially
measuring 21 m and 36 m in length, will be able
to perform offshore data acquisition and intervention
in both shallow and deep water operating
regions. The vessels will use a range
of underwater platforms, including remotely
deploying autonomous underwater vehicles
(aUVs) and remotely operated vehicles (roVs).
The delivery of the Sonardyne equipment started
in 2020.
SAAB
company lürssen and received an order to provide and integrate
the combat system for the Bulgarian Navy’s new Multipurpose
Modular Patrol Vessels (MMPV). lürssen is the prime
contractor to the Bulgarian Ministry of defence, and will build
the vessels at the Bulgarian shipyard MtG dolphin JSC. The
newbuildings are scheduled for delivery between 2025 and
2026. Saab will carry out the work at its premises in Sweden,
denmark, australia and South africa. »We are proud to continue
our successful cooperation with lürssen. We look forward
to contributing to strengthen Bulgaria’s defence and national
security for years to come with our proven technology
and solid naval combat system expertise«, says anders Carp,
deputy CEo of Saab and head of business area Surveillance.
MAN ENERGY SOLUTIONS
SCR solution for German cruiser
MaN PrimeServ augsburg, the after sales division of
MaN, has developed an SCr solution that will be retrofitted
aboard the cruise ship »amadea«, chartered by Phoenix reisen
and managed by BSM Cruise Services. also known as »traumschiff«,
»amadea« is well-known in Germany as the main filming
set for a very popular television series. The retrofit devised
by MaN PrimeServ augsburg calls for the integration of two
of MaN’s SCr systems, one of each into both of the ship’s fourstroke
MaN 7l58/64 propulsion engines. The installation will
begin in September 2021.
