PODRO^JA DEJAVNOSTI<br />

Raziskave v laboratoriju so usmerjene v raziskave<br />

biolo{kih procesov, kot sta prepoznavanje<br />

biolo{kih makromolekul in prenos signalov v<br />

celicah in imajo potencialno uporabnost<br />

(predvsem biotehnolo{ko, medicinsko, farmacevtsko).<br />

Pri tem uporabljamo moderne metode<br />

biokemije, molekularne biologije, mikrobiologije<br />

in biofizike.<br />

Raziskave s podro~ja medicine se nana{ajo na<br />

molekularne mehanizme sepse, konformacijskih<br />

bolezni in strukture amiloidov in delovanja<br />

antimikrobnih u~inkovin. Zanimajo nas mehanizmi<br />

prepoznavanja in biolo{ke aktivnosti na<br />

molekularni ravni, zlasti molekulskih vzorcev<br />

zna~ilnih za patogene mikroorganizme (PAMP),<br />

zato uporabljamo instrumentalne metode z<br />

visoko lo~ljivostjo in ob~utljivostjo, kot sta<br />

jedrska magnetna resonanca (NMR) in fluorescen~na<br />

spektroskopija. Raziskave vklju~ujejo<br />

{tudij fiziologije mikroorganizmov, ki izlo~ajo<br />

encime, organske kisline, antibiotike in druge<br />

zdravilne u~inkovine, kot tudi rekombinantne<br />

proteine. Laboratorij vzdr`uje mikrobiolo{ko<br />

zbirko (MZKI), v kateri hranimo ve~ kot 3000<br />

Activity at the department is oriented towards<br />

research of the biochemical processes, particularly<br />

molecular recognition and signal transduction,<br />

and towards the application of modern<br />

biochemical, biotechnological, microbiological,<br />

biophysical and molecular biological methods<br />

to problems, which have potential industrial<br />

application in fields such as medicine, pharmacy<br />

or biotechnology.<br />

Research topics with application in medicine<br />

are molecular mechanisms of sepsis, conformational<br />

disease and antimicrobial activity of<br />

(lipo)peptides. We are interested in the mechanism<br />

of recognition of pathogen associated<br />

molecular patterns (PAMPs) at the molecular<br />

level where we are employing methods with<br />

high resolution such as nuclear magnetic resonance<br />

and fluorescence spectroscopy. Research<br />

interests include study of metabolic regulation<br />

in microorganisms, which are able to excrete a<br />

number of useful bioproducts, such as enzymes,<br />

organic acids, antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals,<br />

as well as recombinant proteins. Department<br />
