Laboratory of Chemometrics<br />

Sledljivost in izvor hrane (Traceability and the<br />

origin of food). Opisano delo je bilo septembra<br />

<strong>2005</strong> predstavljeno na sestanku skupine v<br />

Bruslju v Belgiji.<br />

Na podro~ju ocenjevanja kemikalij smo skupaj<br />

z Zavodom za zdravstveno varstvo Maribor<br />

spro`ili pobudo za spremljanje dolo~enih<br />

pesticidov v vodi. V L03 smo naredili temeljit<br />

literaturni pregled, medtem ko so v ZZVMB sredi<br />

leta <strong>2005</strong> za~eli z meritvami. Za bolj{e<br />

poznavanje vplivov biocidov in herbicidov na<br />

zdravje ljudi se je sodelavka udele`ila bazi~nega<br />

izobra`evanja, ki poteka v okviru slovensko -<br />

nizozemskega bilateralnega projekta “Risk assessment<br />

of chemicals with focus on biocides”,<br />

ki je bil sklenjen med Uradom Republike<br />

Slovenije za kemikalije in Royal Haskoning,<br />

Nizozemska. Obdelane so bile naslednje<br />

tematike: Ocenjevanje izpostavljenosti za<br />

poklicne in nepoklicne uporabnike biocidov<br />

(november 2004), Toksikologija (januar <strong>2005</strong>),<br />

Ekotoksikologija (februar <strong>2005</strong>), ter Izpostavljenost<br />

za delavca in uporabnika ter ocena<br />

tveganja (junij <strong>2005</strong>).<br />

Sodelavcec, ki je bil od 1. marca do 31.<br />

decembra <strong>2005</strong> gostujo~i znanstvenik v<br />

evropskem Zdru`enem raziskovalnem centru<br />

(Senior Scientist Visitor in European Chemical<br />

Bureau, Institute for Health and Consumer Protection,<br />

Joint Research Centre, Ispra, Italija),<br />

nam je omogo~il sodelovanje v diskusijah na<br />

ravni evropske regulatorne politike za podro~je<br />

ocenjevanja kemikalij. Na evropskem trgu je<br />

pribli`no 100.000 registriranih kemikalij.<br />

Fizikalno - kemijski, toksikolo{ki in ekotoksikolo{ki<br />

podatki, skratka podatki, ki<br />

omogo~ajo oceno tveganja, so znani le za<br />

majhen del teh kemikalij. Kot temelj skupne<br />

kemijske politike Evropska Komisija predlaga<br />

REACH, to je transparenten sistem za registracijo,<br />

evaluacijo in avtorizacijo kemikalij.<br />

REACH zahteva zbiranje in sistematsko urejanje<br />

podatkov za obstoje~e in nove kemikalije. Pred<br />

izvajalce so postavljene tri glavne naloge: (i)<br />

dolo~itev prioritet za testiranje za obstoje~e<br />

kemikalije, (ii) klasifikacija in ozna~evanje<br />

stone, limestone, shale). In total, there were 9<br />

sample sites and 180 sampling locations (for<br />

top-soil). In addition to the topsoil samples, the<br />

subsoil samples at 9 randomly chosen sampling<br />

locations within each site were obtained from<br />

locations lower below the surface. In total, there<br />

were 45 subsoil-sampling locations. Preprocessing<br />

of data included the normalization<br />

of the data sets and the incorporation of the<br />

key for missing data. The sample labels were<br />

also determined, following different parameters<br />

such as sampling sites regarding lithology or<br />

geographic area, and concentrations of the elements<br />

in the soil. So pre-processed data were<br />

mapped and classified with the application of<br />

Kohonen neural networks. The work was presented<br />

on the 3rd WP6 meeting in September<br />

<strong>2005</strong> in Brussels, Belgium. In the frame of this<br />

project one of the member of our laboratory<br />

attended the first annual meeting in April <strong>2005</strong><br />

in York, U.K. The meeting was the official launch<br />

of TRACE with the main subject “Traceability<br />

and the origin of food”.<br />

Regarding assessment of chemicals, we initiated<br />

together with the the Institute of Public<br />

Health Maribor, Slovenia the initiative for the<br />

monitoring of certain pesticides in water. The<br />

literature search was acomplished in L03, while<br />

the IPHMB started with chemical analyses. On<br />

the ground of better knowledge about the influence<br />

of herbicides and biocides on the human<br />

health, our co-worker attended the training<br />

in the frame of Slovenian - Netherlands bilateral<br />

project entitled “Risk assessment of<br />

chemicals with focus on biocides”. This is the<br />

project between the National Chemicals Bureau,<br />

Slovenia, and the Royal Haskoning, Netherlands.<br />

The topics of the training were: General<br />

aspects of exposure assessment (November<br />

2004), Toxicology (January <strong>2005</strong>), Ecotoxicology<br />

(February <strong>2005</strong>), and Exposure estimation for<br />

the worker and the user along with the risk<br />

assessment (June <strong>2005</strong>).<br />

One of the members (M. Vra~ko) has been appointed<br />

as Senior Visiting Scientist at the European<br />

Chemical Bureau, Institute for Health and
