• Considered ‘paper reserves’, these MPAs would need to be
refocused and rededicated, with cetacean research, to function
as MPAs that would protect cetaceans. There are plans in progress
to improve the success of the reserves. These include changing the
status of the area from marine reserve to marine park. Conservation
actions include coral reefs restoration in collaboration with local
fishing communities and promotion of ecotourism.
