utilize the criminal system and, when she is willing, may confront prosecutors<br />

who will not or cannot successfully prosecute her case.<br />

<strong>Lawyers</strong> can play an important role in improving young domestic violence<br />

victims’ access to justice through civil representation, legal education and<br />

training, and legislative advocacy. You can increase the likelihood that your<br />

young client will achieve safety by improving awareness and accessibility of<br />

your services for young people, ensuring that service provision is tailored to the<br />

emotional and practical needs of youth, and familiarizing yourself with both<br />

criminal and civil procedures.
