Counsel for the defenders produced on behalf of Campbell<br />

of Strawhur, the commander, ' ane order or Commission given<br />

to him be the said James Campbell of Ardkinglas ^ of the date<br />

the eightein day of March 1646 yeers Wherby he gives<br />

warrand to the said James Campbell of Orinsarey to march<br />

with ane comandit partie of souldiers Towards the castle of<br />

Brodick within the said yle of Arren and to take his advantage<br />

of those who beseidged the said house by killing of them and<br />

als ordaines him to take the advice of the Captane of the<br />

Castle wher or how he should get provision to his partie and<br />

to do nothing thereanent without advice forsaid And in<br />

lykmaner ordaines the said James Campbell of Orinsarey to<br />

send him provision for his partie Bot ordaines him to doe<br />

all things legallic and in ane orderlie way and ordaines him<br />

to make the goods within the said yle vseles for his opposites<br />

within the said yle.'<br />

<strong>The</strong> defenders, though cited and called, did not appear<br />

in person, and the depositions of witnesses being conclusive,<br />

the Parliament found it sufficiently proven<br />
