XERIC Characterized by or pertaining to conditions <strong>of</strong> scanty<br />

moisture supply; dry.<br />

XERO- Greek prefix signifying dry.<br />

XEROPHYTE A plant that can subsist with a small amount <strong>of</strong><br />

moisture, such as a desert plant; contrasting with hydrophyte<br />

and mesophyte.<br />

XEROPHYTIC Dry-adapted; drought resistant; contrasting with<br />

mesophytic and hydrophytic.<br />

XYLEM Water conducting tissue.<br />

ZYGOMORPHIC Referring to a flower or other structure with only<br />

one plane <strong>of</strong> symmetry; divisible into halves in one plane only;<br />

bilaterally symmetrical;e.g.,with the left half a mirror image <strong>of</strong> the<br />

right; contrasting with both actinomorphic and irregular.<br />

ZYGOTE Cell produced from fertilization or the union <strong>of</strong> two<br />

gametes; a fertilized egg.
