Economic, Social, and Cultural <strong>Rights</strong> Unit<br />

In 2005, the Economic, Social, and Cultural <strong>Rights</strong> Unit continued to monitor and<br />

document violations of economic, social and cultural rights in the OPT, particularly<br />

the Gaza Strip, as set out in its 2005 annual plan. Despite continuous Israeli<br />

violations in the Gaza Strip that imposed themselves on the unit's agenda, the unit was<br />

able to carry out the activities included in its 2005 annual plan. The unit continued to<br />

write periodic reports and studies on violations of economic, social and cultural rights<br />

perpetrated by IOF. It also continued its ef<strong>for</strong>ts to promote economic, social and<br />

cultural rights in <strong>Palestinian</strong> society.<br />

The unit was able to continue its fundamental activities, including preparation of a<br />

number of regular reports on economic, social, and cultural rights; holding public<br />

workshops; and participation in other PCHR activities and activities organized by<br />

other civil society groups in the Gaza Strip. The unit also promoted its activities at<br />

the media and community levels.<br />

housing (housing compounds of those <strong>Palestinian</strong>s whose houses were<br />

destroyed in the Gaza Strip).<br />

1.4) A report on the economic and social impacts of the IOF's redeployment in the<br />

Gaza Strip on the right to work.<br />

1.5) A report on Israeli attacks on <strong>Palestinian</strong> medical personnel (the third report).<br />

1.1) Closure Update: A <strong>Report</strong> on the Impact of Israeli Closure of the Gaza<br />

The unit issued the 46 th of these updates in July 2005, detailing the impact of the<br />

Israeli military closure of the Gaza Strip on economic, social and cultural rights. The<br />

report covers the period from 1 July 2004 to 31 May 2005.<br />
