1.2) Six Training Courses in Coordination with UNRWA Education<br />
Department<br />
The unit organizes these courses in coordination with the UNRWA education<br />
department according to a timetable agreed upon with the coordinator of the UNRWA<br />
<strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong> Program. The contents of these courses include human rights<br />
instruments, such as the International Declaration of <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong>, the International<br />
Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural <strong>Rights</strong>, the International Covenant on<br />
Civil and Political <strong>Rights</strong>, and other issues, such as the importance of human rights<br />
educations, the role of individuals and NGOs in protecting and promoting human<br />
rights, student mediation, conflict resolution UNRWA's human rights education<br />
strategies. The target group includes teachers and deputy directors of UNRWA<br />
schools. In 2005, the unit organized 5 training courses, instead of 6, throughout the<br />
Gaza Strip due to the closure imposed by IOF on the southern Gaza Strip. The sixth<br />
course was replaced by a training course <strong>for</strong> the Lebanese–<strong>Palestinian</strong> Brotherhood<br />
Association. The number of participants was 115, 23% of whom were women. These<br />
training courses included 75 training hours.<br />

• The unit received invitations from several human rights committees at schools to<br />
deliver lectures to teachers and the local community in Khan Yunis and Northern<br />
Gaza.
