5. Donors and Funding<br />

Activity: Maintaining Contacts with International Donors, including writing<br />

reports and proposals<br />

• The International Unit continued to be the only source of donor reporting<br />

from within the Centre.<br />

• Staff in the Unit edited the 2004, 196 page, English Language edition of<br />

the PCHR <strong>Annual</strong> Activities and <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong> report.<br />

• Staff continued to produce quarterly briefings <strong>for</strong> Christian Aid and<br />

quarterly reports <strong>for</strong> Kvinna till Kvinna.<br />

• Staff continued to produce reports <strong>for</strong> Dan Church Aid, including the<br />

assessment of the 2 year grant, the special DCA Logical Framework<br />

• Staff wrote the funding proposal <strong>for</strong> Development Cooperation Ireland.<br />

• Staff wrote a supplementary funding application to KtK and to the<br />

Norwegian Representative Office.<br />

• Staff continued to work through NOVIB, as leader of donor consortium.<br />

• Staff organised and participated in the PCHR NGO and governmental<br />

donor consortia.<br />

Outcome:<br />

• <strong>Report</strong>s continued to be issued – though many deadlines were missed.<br />

• <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> was printed and distributed on mailing list and website as<br />

well as 500 printed copies.<br />

• CA and KtK reports delivered within satisfactory timeframe.<br />

• DCA reports delivered late.<br />

• DCI offer PCHR another 1 year funding contract as opposed to the 3 years<br />

applied <strong>for</strong>.<br />

• Both KtK and the Norwegian Representative Office accepted<br />

supplementary funding applications.<br />

• NGO and government donors gained clearer understanding of PCHR’s<br />

functions.<br />

Activity: Searching <strong>for</strong> new sources of funding<br />

• Staff wrote a proposal <strong>for</strong> the P.L.C. election-monitoring project and<br />

distributed it widely.<br />

• Staff followed up contacts made in 2004 with organisations such as<br />

Trocaire (who funded the Presidential election monitoring project).<br />

• Staff attended the Medical Aid <strong>for</strong> <strong>Palestinian</strong>s UK dinner with Raji<br />

Sourani, in which some contacts from the Arab world were sought.<br />

• Staff coordinated proposal and participation of PCHR in € 3.8 million EU<br />

project entitled “Empowering the <strong>Palestinian</strong> Judiciary”.<br />

• With the assistance of NOVIB, International Unit staff wrote one<br />

successful application <strong>for</strong> the EU EIDHR <strong>for</strong> the Legal Unit and DDU. (€<br />

380,000)<br />

• Staff provided commentary on the successful EIDHR application drafted<br />

by PCHR’s Fundraiser in partnership with NOVIB on the Death Penalty.<br />

(€ 300,000)<br />

• Staff in the Unit played a key role in the successful PCHR ef<strong>for</strong>t to secure<br />

a new funding grant from NOVIB.<br />
