• On 15 February 2005, the unit head was interviewed by Sahar al-Duraimalli from<br />

the Arab Institution <strong>for</strong> Press and Publication on the unlawful transfer of<br />

<strong>Palestinian</strong>s, particularly from the West Bank to the Gaza Strip.<br />

• On 15 February 2005, the unit head was interviewed by journalist Rawia Abu<br />

Nada on international humanitarian law.<br />

• On 28 February 2005, the unit head was interviewed by the <strong>Palestinian</strong>–Lebanese<br />

Brotherhood Association on economic and social conditions in the OPT.<br />

• On 28 February 2005, the unit head was interviewed by al-Aqsa Radio in Gaza on<br />

the rights of the disabled.<br />

• On 9 April 2005, the unit head was interviewed by Timothy Siedel and Christi<br />

Siedel from the Mennonite Committee on economic and social conditions and the<br />

"Disengagement Plan" in the Gaza Strip.<br />

• On 17 June 2005, the unit head was interviewed by Palestine Radio on the impacts<br />

of the "Disengagement Plan" on the human rights situation in the OPT.<br />

• On 28 June 2005, the unit head was interviewed by Palestine Radio on the<br />

implementation of the amended Civil Service Law.<br />

• On 26 July 2005, the unit head was interviewed by journalist Shireen Khalifa on<br />

the implementation of the Civil Service Law.<br />

• On 29 October 2005, the unit head was interviewed by a journalist from the<br />

Washington Post on incidents at al-Azhar University in Gaza, which led to its<br />

closure.<br />

2.4) Training Activities through Training Unit<br />

The unit effectively contributed to training activities organized by PCHR's Training<br />

Unit, including discussion of training programs with the unit head and delivering<br />

lectures at training courses. In 2005, the unit delivered 22 lectures (33 hours) on<br />

issues relating to economic, social and cultural rights, including the International<br />

Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural <strong>Rights</strong>; the right to development; and<br />

women's economic, social and cultural rights.<br />

2.5) Participation in Raising Awareness Activities Organized by Other<br />

Institutions<br />

• On 2 January 2005, the unit head delivered a lecture at Gaza Elementary School<br />

on human rights education to 35 teachers.<br />

• On 12 January 2005, the unit head and a researcher from the unit, Bassam Abu<br />

Hashish, participated in a workshop organized by the <strong>Palestinian</strong> NGO Network<br />

on the executive bill of the Law on Charitable Societies and NGOs.<br />

• On 13 January 2005, the unit head submitted an intervention on the en<strong>for</strong>cement<br />

of rights of the disabled at a workshop organized by Future Palestine.<br />

• On 17 January 2005, the unit head participated in a workshop on activation of<br />

resources <strong>for</strong> children organized by the Cana'an Institute.<br />

• On 31 January 2005, the unit head participated in a workshop organized by the<br />

National Corporation <strong>for</strong> Development and Services in Palestine to establish a<br />

committee to prepare <strong>for</strong> the first public conference in Rafah.<br />

• On 13 February 2005, unit researcher Bassam Abu Hashsih participated in a<br />

workshop on the Law on Charitable Societies and NGOs, No. 1 of 2000,<br />

organized by the <strong>Palestinian</strong> NGO Network.<br />
