Women’s and Children’s <strong>Rights</strong> Unit<br />

In 2005, the unit carried out all activities included in its 2005 annual plan. On several<br />

occasions, the unit carried out activities not included in its annual plan, but without<br />

affecting its regular work and in a way that served to achieve the goals specified by<br />

the unit in its annual plan.<br />

Activities as set out in 2005 <strong>Annual</strong> Plan<br />

1) Legal aid <strong>for</strong> women and women’s organizations.<br />

2) Legal awareness <strong>for</strong> women and children of their rights, as protected under<br />

domestic and international legislation and human rights instruments.<br />

3) Lobbying <strong>for</strong> incorporation of international standards relevant to women and<br />

children in laws and draft laws.<br />

4) Cooperation with local, regional and international women's organizations.<br />

5) Participation in Monitoring of the Presidential election.<br />

1.1) Representation of Women be<strong>for</strong>e Sharia’ and Civil Courts<br />

The unit continued to represent women be<strong>for</strong>e Sharia’ and civil courts. In 2005, the<br />

unit pursued 448 cases in Sharia’ courts and 4 cases in civil courts. The following<br />

tables detail the cases pursued by the unit and the results achieved.<br />
