was in 2006 vir 10% van die na vor sings uitsette
verantwoordelik.
Hoëronderwysnavorsing kry tuiste
Bykomend tot die navorsingsaktiwitieite van personeel en
studente is ’n subafdeling vir Hoëronderwysnavorsing in
die groter afdeling Hoëronderwysstudie en -Navorsing gevestig
om die gehalte van navorsing in die afdeling te verbeter
en uit te brei. Prof. ‘Mabokang Monnapula-Mapesela
is die hoof van die subafdeling. Besondere mylpale was
twee navorsingsprojekte, naamlik ’n Inheemse Kennisprojek
(IK) oor die orale tradisie en ’n ETDP SETA-projek oor
kapasiteitsontwikkeling. Vyf navorsers het aan die ETDP
SETA-projek deelgeneem waaruit ses artikels vir publikasie
voorgelê is. Vier werkswinkels met betrekking oor orale
tradisie is aangebied.
Close relations with industry
The UFS is continuing to work closely with industry in
various areas. Sasol invested R9 million over the past three
years in the Department of Chemistry. This was part of the
strategic alliance forged between the UFS and Chemistry,
in terms of which the UFS invested R12 million in the
department. (These amounts exclude the expenditure on
the chemistry-building renovation project, which may eventually
cost approximately R50 million.) Sasol has been
very impressed with the department’s increase in significant
published research outputs on basic petrochemical
reactions.
The Netcare Private Hospital Group made a donation to
the Department of Haematology and Cell Biology for among
others the establishment of a bone-marrow transplant
programme, the development of a molecular-biology
laboratory and the development of anti-leukemia remedies.
Through the Technology and Human Resources for
Industry Programme (THRIP), managed by the NRF and
the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the university
is involved with many projects with industrial partners. A
project of the Centre for Plant Health Management
(CePHma) has won a 2007 Technology Award presented
by the national Department of Trade and Industry.
