37 staff members applied for funding to attend international<br />
conferences and eight attended national conferences in<br />
2007. A total <strong>of</strong> 1 388 employees attended career-de ve lopment<br />
training sessions on <strong>the</strong> Main Campus. Sixty sessions<br />
were held between January and December 2007.<br />
The development <strong>of</strong> staff at <strong>the</strong> Qwaqwa Campus is also<br />
a priority and, to ensure knowledge, behaviour and skills development,<br />
34 sessions were held and 583 staff members<br />
attended. A total <strong>of</strong> 16 staff members attended two per formance-management<br />
sessions on <strong>the</strong> Qwaqwa Campus.<br />
In addition staff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Cleaning Services,<br />
Physical Resources, attended training on HIV issues<br />
and how to protect <strong>the</strong>mselves against HIV in <strong>the</strong> work<br />
situation, as well as on destigmatisation. These workshops<br />
were done with small groups that allowed good interaction<br />
and stimulate <strong>the</strong> members to ask questions.<br />

Mentorskapprogram help personeel<br />
Die mentorskapprogram van die Fakulteit Gees tes wetenskappe,<br />
wat in 2005 ingestel is, staan nuwe personeel by in<br />
hul aanpassing in ’n nuwe departement en ondersteun hulle<br />
met die inlywing by die akademiese milieu van die <strong>UV</strong>. In<br />
2007 was 26 mentors en 31 mentorlinge by hierdie program<br />
betrokke. Twee ontwikkelingsgeleen<strong>the</strong>de is vir hulle aange<br />
bied. Mentorlinge en mentors het op gereelde grondslag<br />
formeel en informeel gesprek gevoer en hulp en ondersteuning<br />
is deurgaans aan mentorlinge verleen.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>. Willfred Greyling (Engels) het ’n in no ve rende<br />
