Prestedge Retief Dresner Wijnberg (PRDW) have been monitoring the state of the groynes
and beach since dredging was completed in November 2008. Some structural damage became
evident on the Northern Groyne (the second one constructed), with some of the bags suffering from
wave damage (Anton Vonk, PRDW 2010 pers. comm.). These need to be repaired to ensure no
further deterioration, and await budget from the municipality (Andrew McCarthy, PRDW 2011 pers.
comm.). The southern end Groyne is reported to be working well and is retaining material. A
bathymetric survey was conducted at the end of the project and a second bathymetric survey is
pending. Once the necessary budget has been approved for the pending repair work and survey, a
final report will be compiled which will mark the end of the monitoring period for this project
(Andrew McCarthy, PRDW 2011 pers. comm.).
