out on i 17, ' all uexilla were not uexilla ueteraiwrum. <strong>The</strong> word<br />

uexilla denotes bodies <strong>of</strong> troops, detached from their own legions,<br />

and serving apart when occasion required. See Caes. B.G. vi 36.<br />
